Back To Baja (Presented by Flarespace)

Calling all outdoor enthusiasts: we’ve got the perfect festival for you just south of the border.

Picture this: you’re driving through the remote desert as you pass breathtaking rock canyons and coastal dunes. Then you’re biting into mouthwatering cuisine in a historic town and telling your friends, “You’ve got to try this!”

You’re taking a photo with the largest cactus you’ve ever seen, and when you need to wash off the desert dust, you take a soak in a refreshing hot spring.

Don’t miss this 4-day weekend in Baja. See you in April!

Back To Baja (Presented by Flarespace)

What’s there to do near the event site?
We will have some events planned.  There are miles and miles of awesome trails in the desert area if you want to bring motorcycles or ATVs.  Or you can rent the side-by-side machines that we have available.  We will also coordinate trips into San Felipe and some cool surrounding areas.
What are the event dates?
We are opening the event site on Thursday afternoon, Apr 21, 2022 and closing the site on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 2 pm.
Why the weekend of April 21st?
April 22, 2022 is Earth Day and the weekend following Easter.  We benefit from a waning fulling moon and really great Spring weather, a good chance to escape the cold from up North!
Can we arrive after dark?
No.  Only drive in Mexico during the day.  Roads can be narrow, curvy, poorly marked, and have small/no shoulders.  Cattle and chupacabras tend to roam freely at night, you don’t want to hit one in a van.
How many people can get into the event with one ticket?
Tickets to the Back to Baja are sold by vehicle and all people staying in that vehicle or on that vehicle’s site are welcome to attend for the same admission price.  If you need a larger spot for more rigs or tents, we recommend you upgrade to the VIP Ticket.
Are there other camping areas available on the event site?
No, you can camp on your reserved spot.  If you need more space, buy a VIP ticket or two or more General Admission tickets.
Is this a kids friendly event?
Absolutely, we plan to have fun activities available throughout the day for folks of all ages to partake.  Know however, that there are no published quiet hours, probably instances of bad behavior to be found, and likely someone intoxicated and using foul language, even though we are not condoning that behavior.
Is this a dog-friendly event?
You bet! We love our four-legged friends and welcome them to join you for the fun and festivities. We do ask that you keep them on a leash during group events & activities.
What’s included in the ticket price?
We are planning to provide valuable services within a fun and safe venue to be enjoyed by like minded campers!  Those services and the venue cost money – we’re trying to offset those costs by having a modest fee to attend the event.  You can expect to find bathrooms, on-site medical support, on-site security, and 24-hour oversight of the venue area.
Is this a cash-only event?
Yes! Because the grounds are located in a remote location, cellular/internet service will not be available. All a la carte purchases must be made through cash – Dollars and Pesos are accepted.
Is Mexico safe?
The US State Department provides travel advisory levels for any travel outside the US. Prior to travel, we encourage you to read through the current advisories for travel to Baja California. Currently, the US State Department has advisories in place telling US citizens to ‘reconsider travel’ to both Mexico and Baja California. Learn more here
What are the COVID-19 protocols?
Arrival quarantines are not required. The US CDC and the Mexican government encourage people to continue respecting social distancing measures, washing their hands, and coughing or sneezing in the inner part of the elbow to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings are not required in Baja California or San Felipe but are strongly encouraged. Some businesses may require face coverings. Curfews are not universal across Mexico. Restrictions vary based on state and/or city. Currently travel is discouraged after dark in Baja California.
I saw that Baja California is currently in Orange on the Mexican Federal Stoplight System for Covid-19. Is that true? How does that impact the event?
That is correct. Currently Baja California, the state where the event will take place, is in Orange status. Under the orange status, the Back to Baja 2022 event cannot take place. We fully expect that Baja California will return to the Yellow or Green status prior to April 22, 2022, and the event will take place as planned.
How do we get there?
We will be providing maps to the area from several of the border crossing areas.  You will get the details with our ticket purchase.  We are also organizing caravans to cross the border into Mexico to help make the experience of crossing the border and traveling into the interior a fast and comfortable experience.
Do I need insurance?
Yes, you need to buy Mexican vehicle insurance and ensure it’s valid for the dates of the event and any time you plan to spend on in Mexico on either end of the event.
Is it safe to cross the border and what should I expect?

Yes, U.S. Citizens are permitted to enter Mexico and it’s very safe to cross the border. Here some other things to keep in mind:

  • You will need to complete the Mexican tourist visa
  • You will need to buy Mexican insurance for your trip
  • Travelers entering Mexico by land from the United States maybe denied admission if the purpose of their visit is considered non-essential.
  • A negative COVID-19 test is not required for entry to Mexico.
  • Travelers entering Mexico via land may be subject to health screen including temperature checks. Travelers may experience significant delays and face the possibility of being returned to the United States or quarantined in Mexico.

We’ve never been stopped driving across the border into Mexico but you’ll want to ensure you have the aforementioned documents if you ever get stopped.

Are there recommended border crossings?
Yes! For festival goers coming from California, Oregon, and Washington, we recommend the Tecate/Tecate border crossing. For those. coming in from Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and etc, we recommend the Andrade/Algodones border crossing. We will have event staff present at each of these crossings on Thursday to support you & your van in getting through security and into Mexico.
What should I expect when crossing back into the U.S.?
US citizens may enter the US via land ports of entry regardless of vaccination status and are not required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Starting January 2022, all inbound nonimmigrant foreign national travelers crossing U.S. land ports of entry must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination. In the United States, quarantine requirements and recommendations may vary by state. Therefore, travelers should review an individual state’s re-entry requirements before traveling. The CDC currently recommends international travelers get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home for self-quarantine for seven days post-travel. When re-entering the US, U.S. citizens must have a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) document, such as a valid U.S. passport, and be prepared to present it if requested by a CBP officer during a border inspection. Travelers entering the US via land from Mexico should expect long delays at the border crossing.
Can I meet up with someone to cross the border and drive to the event site?
Heck ya!  We are organizing several ‘meet ups’ so that you can cross the border in a convoy and drive together to the event site.  More details to follow.

I don’t have a van, can I still come?
Sure, bring a motorcycle and a tent, we don’t care.  We’re happy to have all attendees and anyone with
